Malcolm Shand

Based on the sunshine coast, Malcolm has been focused on writing and recording original alternate pop/rock songs for the last decade. His music is based on life experiences and storytelling.

Malcolm enjoys power in music and the dynamics of light and shade. He is not afraid to experiment. Playing using different chord structures, different keys, modulation and beats, then adding layers of vocal and instrumental harmonies produces a compelling and attractive sound.

Malcolm’s music can provide a release of tension, or an escape from reality or bring a point home. Malcolm’s songs range from the highly emotive “War” and “I’m Losing You” to beat driven grooves and foot tappable riffs found in “Uh Oh Alcohol” and “Just Like You”. Many of Malcolm’s songs such as “Headspace”, Driving in my Car”, “Driving Down the Mountain” and “Ride Into The Night” can be appreciated on a long drive or road trip as you travel through the countryside. Being born and bred in a small country town and then moving to the city and having lived in outback Queensland has inspired many of Malcolm’s writings. Malcolm loves road trips and the wide open spaces found in Australia. The wild rivers and mountains of his home area in East Gippsland provide memories of calm spaces against the angst of modern life.

Having now completed two albums, Malcolm is working to share his music with the world. Keep an eye out for Malcolm and his band playing at music festivals or local Sunshine Coast gigs. Malcolm invites listeners to enjoy the tunes by purchasing or streaming the tracks on your favourite device.

Malcolm has used very high fidelity recording techniques and encourages listeners to play his music through a good system or choose from streaming services offering high quality. Malcolm considers much of his music as art, not to be necessarily commercial, but to engage the listener and hold his audience for an enjoyable journey.
